Pump beeps every time a paw lands

Today during a carboplatin infusion at 8 a.m., our Alaris decided to alarm “occlusion” exactly whenever our sweet lab offered a reassurance paw to his anxious mom — like the pump was policing cuddle time. Anyone else have gear that insists on comic timing while we’re juggling CSTD, PPE, and owner support, and how do you keep the room calm without killing the moment?

I keep a little paw pillow (rolled towel), route the tubing lateral, and add one loose paper-tape loop on the distal limb so the reassurance paw doesn’t kink the line; if policy allows, I nudge the Alaris occlusion sensitivity up one after confirming patency. > juggling CSTD, PPE, and owner support, and how do you keep the room calm without killing — I tell the owner the beep’s the pump “applauding” the brave paw while I silence and recheck flow. Do you find routing fixes it more than a sensitivity tweak in your room?

Piggybacking on @tobyVet88, I redirect the paw by giving the dog a quick ‘chin rest’ job — rolled blanket at chest height — so mom can keep petting and the Alaris stops yelling ‘occlusion’ every cuddle… If that flops, a small LickiMat on the opposite side of the catheter keeps the 8 a.m. wiggles busy without killing the moment.
